Lore & Background

The shores of Aeternum were first charted by explorers seeking the fabled Eternal Isle, a land of boundless resources and immortality. However, the island's promise quickly soured as settlers discovered the corrupting influence of the Azoth-rich environment. The Corrupted, twisted beings born from the misuse of Azoth and ancient curses, roam the wilderness, attacking any who venture too close to the island's volatile heart. The social order among the survivors is fragile, constantly shifting with power struggles between different factions seeking to control the limited supplies and secure a foothold. The true horror of Aeternum began when the Corrupted started to spread, overwhelming colonial outposts and turning the island into a battleground. It was during this catastrophic collapse that many players arrived, shipwrecked on the coast, only to find themselves trapped in a nightmare where the only way out was through the very chaos they sought to escape.

In Their Own Story

The iron gates groaned under the weight of the storm, but no one noticed the rain anymore. The air tasted of salt and copper blood. Elias stood amidst the rubble of the guard tower, his hands trembling not from cold, but from the realization that the screams coming from the lower cells were not human. A shadow detached itself from the wall, moving with a jerky, unnatural gait. It was once a man named Kael, now just a hollow vessel for something ancient and hungry. 'Run,' Elias whispered to himself, though his legs felt heavy as stone. The prison wasn't holding them in anymore; it was feeding them out.

Reader's Guide

Fort Joy is situated on a rugged, rocky island surrounded by treacherous waters that make escape difficult without a vessel. The terrain is dominated by high stone walls, watchtowers, and cramped cell blocks that create tight, claustrophobic corridors perfect for ambushes. The climate is perpetually damp and stormy, reflecting the island's grim reputation. This weather affects visibility and adds to the atmospheric tension during exploration. Players must navigate through muddy courtyards and dark dungeons where visibility is often poor, requiring careful use of light sources or keen senses. Unique features include the prison's various zones, such as the execution grounds and the overcrowded holding cells, which serve as hubs for early-game combat and resource gathering. The layout encourages vertical movement, with players climbing walls or using ladders to bypass ground-level threats. As a starting zone, it introduces core mechanics like crafting weapons from scavenged materials and engaging in player-versus-environment combat against both hostile NPCs and supernatural entities.
